The Bluff House

The Bluff House offers our most luxurious guest accommodations in an atmosphere of English Manor sophistication. Each uniquely decorated suite offers every modern amenity with spectacular views completely unrivaled in the area.

Towering on a massive granite bluff, the building hugs the contours of the land in complete harmony. Nestled proudly on its granite perch, the timeless Tudor Manor architecture casts a castle like presence on the Mountain Road below.

Through the windows set into ten inch thick walls you will experience a unique perspective with panoramas soaring high above the village to the surrounding peaks and ridges of the famous Worcesters to the South. Views to the North carry over the pool and property to majestic Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest at 4,393 feet.

These very luxurious accommodations are exceptional and absolutely unique in Stowe and the State of Vermont. Every Bluff House Suite has been designed to provide total comfort for your carefree vacation right down to the steps which assist your access to the beautiful high queen size rice carved four poster beds.

Designer fabrics and furnishings abound. The bathrooms, spacious bright and airy are a ladies delight, providing full shower and a separate whirlpool tub for two. Each suite boasts a lounge with sofa and wing chairs, cherry desks and cocktail tables, custom built refrigerated cherrywood wet bars, oversize televisions, mantled fireplaces and private decks or patios to capture the invigorating morning sun and romantic sunsets.

Throughout, classic English paintings and prints adorn the walls. The sense of privacy, peace and tranquillity is immediate.

Newcastle is the largest of all the Bluff House Suites featuring two bedrooms each with queen size beds one with a four poster the other with a white ceramic queen. A spiral staircase leads to a loft area, featuring a comfy futon sofa for resting and relaxing. A high cathedral ceiling supports a handsome brass chandelier of generous proportions. Views from here are to the south east over the church spire (the highest in Vermont). Newcastle suite and Windsor suite may be connected if desired.

Windsor is the only suite that does not feature a deck or patio. Of its inspiring height we felt a little uncomfortable for guests with vertigo! Views from here are truly magnificent. Look ahead out to the fields and beyond through the Lamoille Valley for miles, to your right the ridgeline of the Worcester Mountains is most impressive. Just left is Mount Mansfield the highest mountain in Vermont. Sixty feet below, roofs of every size pitch and angle testify to the interesting inn they cover, they evoke images of a London in the time of Dickens. The Windsor suite can connect to Newcastle if desired.

Enjoying the southerly aspect of Bluff House, Cambridge has a very large walkout patio surrounded by rock gardens with sunny views to the village. In the lounge a queen size sofa pulls out to a bed for family or friends. A connection to neighboring Oxford suite can be made to expand if desired.

Next door to Cambridge, Oxford also has a queen size pullout couch. The Deck here is accessed through a full length bay door system, again beautiful views to the South with surrounding rock gardens and perennial shrubs. A connection to neighboring Cambridge suite can be made to expand if desired.

On the same level as both Oxford and Cambridge, Plymouth suite has westerly and northern views. The lounge with its soaring cathedral ceiling opens out to a very large deck overlooking the gardens and the heated pool. In the distance is the llama farm and a quintessential Vermont maple sugar house. Clouds of steam can be seen pouring through the trees as the sap flows down for boiling into maple syrup during the season.

The southerly exposure ensures bright sunny mornings in the Arundel suite, views to the village are lovely. Up to four people can sleep here using the queen size pullout couch in the lounge. Relax on the deck surrounded by the pretty gardens, it is very peaceful here.

Here a corner deck looks both to the south and the east over the village. The lounge with cathedral ceiling has views in three directions. The bathroom in this suite is larger than most, generous and very airy. To relax in the Jacuzzi with votive candles providing a soft and gentle light is alone priceless, food for the soul.

Opening onto the lawns surrounding the pool and bordered by an impressive wall of boulders ablaze with hanging flowers, this suite is nicknamed the 'garden suite'. Furnishings here are different to the other suites in Bluff House. Country cottage style and ambiance the pine furnishings are a perfect compliment to the location. A special labor free wood stove on a terra-cotta floor completes this lovely romantic suite.

At pool level the Salisbury enjoys a corner deck similar to the Edinburgh. Again the very large bathroom is spacious and airy with white tiles in the traditional style. Rare botanical prints add that extra feeling of luxury so evident throughout the Bluff House.
